Leader John W. Ten Wheelers set out from the Nigel Poulton Memorial Hall on a bright but breezy morning and following the heavy recent rain, rode on very poor surfaces to Dane End and then climbing the long steep hill passed Whitehill Golf Club to Potter’s Green before riding down to Standon Green End on the old A10.

The old Roman road was then crossed on the way to Barwick ford and onward to Kettle Green into Hadham Cross. Taking the B180 to Widford on the way to Hunsdon, this road can be busy at times but fortunately safe progress was made to Stanstead Abbotts for refreshments.

Revitalised the ride continued on the rather muddy River Lee tow-path to Ware and on to Hertford, enjoying the tranquil scenery and the wild life on the way. The final ride along the main road was achieved at a very respectable pace, back to Watton in time for lunch with 29 miles covered.
